Why should I use budget journals?

You can create individual budget journals that are tied to a specific budget level or you can use a single journal that is not assigned to a specific level.

 

Multiple Journals

Advantages... (1) Allows a user to assign a budget level when running budget routines. (2) Easier to delete entries for a specific budget level.

Disadvantages... (1) Requires user to maintain multiple journals. (2) Requires user to remember which journal code to use when entering or editing budget.

 

Single Journal

Advantages... (1) Only one journal to maintain. (2) Easier to remember one journal code when entering or editing budget.

Disadvantages... (1) Limits the ability to assign budget levels when running budget routines. (2) More difficult to delete entries by budget level. (3) More difficult to determine which budget level is assigned to an entry in Inquiry and on some reports.
