How do I change a legal description? (Real Properties)

Enter a legal description for the real property. A legal description is a description that is sufficient to identify it for legal purposes. In most situations, the best practice is to use the legal description from the most recent deed to the property.

Example: Southwest quarter of southwest quarter (SW 1/4 of SW 1/4) and west half of southeast quarter of southwest quarter (W 1/2 SE 1/4 SW 1/4) of section eleven (11), township four (4) north of range eight (8) west.

 

Changing a legal description

Follow these instructions if the real property is not linked to a master property record in System Management.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Property Tax Collection > Real Properties > Setup New Properties or Modify Existing Real Properties.

2. Click to select the Legal Description tab.

3. Click on the Legal Description box and then enter the new legal description.

 

What if I can't change the legal description? In Modify Existing Real Properties, the Legal Description box may be locked. To unlock it, click Restricted Fields .

4. Click Save (CTRL+S).

The changes to the legal description is saved.


Changing a legal description on a master property

If the real property is linked to a master property record in System Management, you will need to update the legal description on the master property record. The changes that you make to the master property will be updated to all Connect applications that reference the master property.

Do this...

1. Open Connect System Management > Master Records > Setup/Modify Properties.

2. Click on the Legal Description tab.

3. Use the Legal Description box to enter the new legal description.

4. Click Save (CTRL+S).

The legal description is saved. Connect will update the legal description in Connect applications that reference the master property.
