How do I add the AWS url to attachments?

There's a new option to upload new attachments with the AWS URL appended to the attachment file name in the 2022.11 release. This option supports attachments for Connect Online, hosted sites, and sites who are saving attachments directly to your Amazon S3 bucket.

What happens to saved attachments?

Using this option will update the attachment file name on every attachment in the database with the AWS URL. After the attachment file name is formatted, Connect will upload the attachments with updated file names that include the AWS URL as new attachments to the online storage provider. This process will preserve the links to the attachment and stop Connect from re-uploading attachments every time a user opens a record with an attachment linked to it in Inquiry.

What happens to new attachments?

Uploading new attachments will add the AWS URL to the attachment file name. Any new attachments that are added to Connect can be viewed in Connect Online.

Why was the Upload New Attachments checkbox added?

In version 2022.08 and earlier, the attachment file name was saved in the online storage service exactly as it was entered in the application, usually without an AWS URL. When a user opened Inquiry to view a record that included an attachment, the Amazon S3 would search for the AWS URL in the file name. If the AWS URL was not found, the attachment was uploaded again to the online storage service.

Uploading new attachments

1. Open Connect System Management > Organization > Organization.

If you need to set up the online attachment interface, see How do I set up an online attachment interface?

2. Click to select the Interfaces tab.

3. In the Online Attachment Interface section, click to select the Upload New Attachments checkbox.

What do you want to do?

  • I want to prevent attachments from uploading every time I view record with attachments linked to it. Click Yes to add the AWS URL to the attachment file name and upload the attachments with updated file names.

  • I want to keep the existing attachment file names. Click No to exit without saving. Connect will add the AWS URL to the file name on new attachments but it will not update the file name on any existing attachments with the AWS URL even when the attachment file name does not include the AWS URL. Attachments that do not include the AWS URL will be re-uploaded every time you open a record in Inquiry that links to an attachment.
