How do I add a primary asset?

You would add a primary asset to create the main asset record that related sub-assets or component assets can be connected to. Primary assets help organize complex assets, such as buildings, vehicles, or equipment systems, into a clear parent-child structure for easier tracking, reporting, depreciation, and maintenance management.

Examples of primary assets include:
  1. Buildings
  2. Fire trucks
  3. Police vehicles
  4. Servers or computer systems
  5. Water treatment plants
  6. Generators
  7. Road infrastructure
  8. Heavy equipment, such as backhoes or excavators
  9. HVAC systems
  10. Utility distribution systems

A primary asset is typically the main asset record that related sub-assets or components are connected to.

Adding a primary asset

1. Open Connect Asset Management > Assets > Manage Primary Assets.

2. Click New (CTRL+N).

3. Enter the Asset Number.

This is the primary asset number.

What is the asset number?

  • I want to enter an asset number. Type an asset number in the Asset Number field.

  • I want to search for an existing asset number. Click Search, located at the end of the Asset Number field.

4. Add assets to the primary assets.

Click the Add Assets to Primary Group button; it is located on the Primary Asset toolbar and not on the main toolbar. When the Search form displays, choose one of the following options to select assets.

Which assets do you want to add to the primary asset?

  • I want to add an asset to the primary asset. Find the asset in the Search form, and click OK.

  • I want to add a group of assets. Press and hold the CTRL key, then click on each asset in the group. All of the selected items will be highlighted. Click OK.

5. Click Save (CTRL+S).

The record is saved.
