How do I link a taxing district to a property?

Link a Taxing District to a property to ensure the property is taxed by the correct jurisdictions and tax rates. The taxing district determines which taxing entities, levies, and assessments apply to the property, allowing the system to calculate property taxes accurately. Maintaining correct district assignments helps ensure proper billing, revenue distribution, and compliance with local tax requirements.

Examples:

  • Link a property to the appropriate city, county, and school district for tax calculations.
  • Assign a property to a fire protection or special service district that levies additional taxes.
  • Update a property's taxing district when district boundaries change.
  • Correct an incorrect district assignment to ensure accurate tax billing.
  • Verify district assignments before generating tax notices or closing the tax period.

Do this...

If you are setting up a new taxing district, you can use Real Property > Modify Existing Real Properties to add the taxing district to a real property. Likewise, if the taxing district applies to personal property, use Personal Property > Modify Personal Properties instead. You'll find the Taxing District field on the Property tab.
