Backing up a Connect database ensures the availability, integrity, and security of data in various situations. Here are a few examples why backing data is important:
Hardware failures. Such as hard drive failure or failure of other hardware components.
Software issues. Corrupt files and malware attacks can render data unusable or inaccessible.
Human error. Users may accidentally delete important files or overwrite data. Accidents such as incorrect data entry or formatting errors that lead to data loss or corruption.
Disaster recovery. Natural disasters such as floods, fires, earthquakes, and storms and power surges can damage hardware and software.
Man-made disasters. Theft or vandalism and cyber attacks can result in the loss of data.
Making a backup at regular intervals and when you are performing a task to delete or modify transactions will help you quickly restore operations and minimize downtime.
If you are working with customer support, you may need to back up your database and send it to support. Customer support can also use Send Data to send a database to you, for example, if you're working with customer service to make corrections to a database. You'll want to save the backup file to Caselle Cloud. [More]
You cannot save data to the *\csldata\backup directory. You'll need to create a new folder in *\csldata\backedup where "backedup" is not the same file name as "backup directory". Connect will save the backup file to the "backedup" directory and uses the "backup directory" to store the temporary clean up files. When Connect deletes the temporary files, it will delete the files that were created during the current session from the "backup directory". Any files that existed in the "backup directory" prior to running Send Databases will not be deleted.

1. Open Connect System Management > System Tools > Send Databases.
2. Enter a file name.
The default file name is [Organization Name].[Current Date]. You can use the default file name or you can replace it with a different file name.
3. Select the checkbox titled Local File, and then enter or browse to find the backup directory.
The backup directory is the location where you want to create the backup file. It can be on a local drive or network.
Note: You cannot save data to the *\csldata\backup directory. You'll need to create a new folder in *\csldata\backedup where "backedup" is not the same file name as "backup directory". Connect will save the backup file to the "backedup" directory and uses the "backup directory" to store the temporary clean up files. When Connect deletes the temporary files, it will delete everything stored in the "backup directory".
4. Select the checkbox titled Compress Data.
This option will create a .zip file instead of a .mdb file. The .zip file is usually a smaller file than the .mdb file.
5. Select the SQL Server running the Caselle database.
Use the server list to locate the SQL Server running the Caselle databases that you want to backup. This field will display the SQL server that you are currently using to run Connect as the default SQL server.
Which SQL database do you want to back up?
Create a backup copy of the Caselle databases that I'm running now. That's perfect. This is the default setting. Go to the next step.
Create a backup copy of Caselle databases on another SQL Server. Use the Server menu to select a SQL Server. You may need to click the Refresh button, located at the end of the Server field, to update the server list.
6. Select the databases to back up.
For most users, the database list displays the Caselle databases on the selected SQL Server that match the default database name saved in the Connect configuration file. For users with administrative rights, the database list displays all of the Caselle databases on the selected SQL Server.
You can search the database list quickly using this field. Type the database name in the search field and then click Find. For example, if you're backing up the Cash Receipting database (CR0), then you would type in CR0.
To view a list of abbreviated names for Caselle applications, see the help topic titled Abbreviated database names for Caselle Applications.
7. Click GO (CTRL+G).
Connect saves a copy of the selected database in the destination directory.
