MSSQL and MSAccess are databases developed by Microsoft. An MSSQL database is created using Microsoft SQL, while an MSAccess database is created using Microsoft Access. You can set up the Default configuration file, which the application will use first. This works well if all of the applications use the same type of database. And you can set up a configuration file to manage an individual database, say if you're still running an application that uses 2.x database. The 2.x database is a MSAccess database. The 4.x applications use MSSQL.
Will Connect interface to any Classic 2.x databases?
Yes, some applications will access data created in Classic 2.x. You need to set up a Default to access MSSQL databases and a separate Application property to access MSAccess databases. Use Tasks to select Add a New Application.
No, all applications will only access Connect 4.x data. Use the Default item, in the Applications list, to set up the application properties. All of the Connect applications will use this file to access data stored in the SQL server.
What is the database type?
This application will use an MSSQL database. Use the Database Type field to select MSSQL.
This application will use MSAccess database. Use the Database Type field to select MSAccess.
Where is the server located?
Use the default server. The application used this server to log on.
Use a different server. Use the Server menu to locate the server name.
Update the server list. Click Refresh to update the Server menu. The Refresh button is located at the end of the Server field; it looks like two green arrows.
What is the database name? The database name will be appended to the application ID. Example: um0_[database name]
Use the organization name as the database name. Recommended.
Change the database name. Use the Database Name field to enter a new name.
On log on, do you want to prompt the user to select a database?
Use the default database. Recommended. Click to clear the Prompt for Database checkbox.
Prompt the user to select a databas e. Click to select the Prompt for Database checkbox.
If the application is using an MSSQL database, you can connect to the MSSQL database using Windows Authentication or SQL Server Authentication. Use Windows Authentication to use the same user name and password that you use to sign into Windows to connect to the MSSQL database. Or use SQL Server Authentication to use the same user name and password that you use to access the MSSQL server.
How do you want to log on to the database?
Connect using Windows Authentication. Click Windows Authentication.
Connect using SQL Server Authentication. Click SQL Server Authentication. Then, enter the MSSQL user name and password.
If the Database Type is MSAccess, you need to enter the name of the MSAccess database and the database path and directory.
What is the MSAccess database name?
I know the MSAccess database name. Use the Database field, located at the bottom of the form, to type in the MSAccess name.
Help me look up the MSAccess database name. Click Browse to locate the MSAccess database. Select the MSAccess database, and then click OK. The database path and directory display in the Database field.
Do you want to use a previous version of Caselle to launch the MSAccess database?
Use Connect to display the MSAccess database. Leave the Application Path field blank. Do not fill in a path to use Connect to launch the database.
Use Classic 2.x or 3.x to display the MSAccess database. Use the Application Path field to enter the path and directory to the previous Caselle application. Example: c:\caselle\caselle.exe
After you set up the configuration file, you can test the database connection to make sure it works correctly. Use the Tasks menu to click Check Database Connection.
What if the database is not connecting?
Check the Database Type, Server, Database Name, and Connect Using settings are set up correctly.
Try changing the Connect Using setting from Windows Authentication to SQL Server Authentication, or vice versa.
