How do I set up a new license?

Setting up a new license creates an official record that an animal is registered under your jurisdiction—establishing both compliance and billing.

What it’s for

It initiates the full licensing lifecycle, linking the animal and owner to a specific license type, term, and fee structure.

Why you would set one up

You’d create a new license whenever an animal needs to be registered for the first time or re-established in the system:

  • Register a new animal
The animal has not been licensed before.
  • Start a new licensing period
A prior license has expired and a new one is being issued rather than renewed.
  • Apply a different license type
For example, issuing a new license after a change in status (such as altered vs. unaltered).
  • Replace an invalid or incorrect record
Create a clean, accurate license when the previous one shouldn’t be used.

In practice

Setting up a new license is the starting point for tracking compliance, billing, and renewals. It ensures the system has a complete, accurate foundation for everything that follows.
