Setting up a new license creates an official record that an animal is registered under your jurisdiction—establishing both compliance and billing.

It initiates the full licensing lifecycle, linking the animal and owner to a specific license type, term, and fee structure.

You’d create a new license whenever an animal needs to be registered for the first time or re-established in the system:

Setting up a new license is the starting point for tracking compliance, billing, and renewals. It ensures the system has a complete, accurate foundation for everything that follows.
Do this...
1. Open Connect Animal License > Licenses > Setup New Licenses.
2. Set up the license options.
License number
Enter a license number that has not been assigned to another license.
Expiration date
Enter the date when the license is no longer considered valid.
Fee
Enter the amount paid to set up a new license. To add an amount to the menu, set up a fee. [More] (Organization > Fees)
Species
Select a species from the menu, or type in a new species to add it to the list. A species is the official category that the animal belongs to, for example, canine, feline, reptile, and so on.
Breed
Select a breed from the menu, or type in a new breed to add it to the list. A breed is the name of the animal that is given within the assigned species. For example, if canine is the species, then Doberman, German shepherd, and Labrador are a few examples of different breeds.
Color
Select a color from the menu, or type in a new color to add it to the list.
Markings
If the animal has any identifying markings, enter a brief description. The markings include patterns, spots, and other distinguishing marks that you can use to identify the animal.
Animal name
Enter the animal's name. Example: Boss, Fluffy, Tiger, Joe
Gender
This is the animal's designation as male or female. Select Female, Male, or Unknown.
Neutered/Spayed
Females are spayed. Males are neutered. If the animal is neutered or spayed, complete up this field.
Alert message
Add an alert message that will display on the screen when a user looks up the license to enter payments. For example, NSF, CHECK, CASH ONLY
Show license as active
Select this checkbox. Connect can use an active license to create transactions for billing, penalties, renewal fees, and delinquent accounts.
Veterinarian name
Select a veterinarian from the menu, or type in a new veterinarian to add it to the list.
Rabies number and expiration date
Enter the rabies number and expiration date for the rabies vaccination paperwork.
Microchip ID and manufacturer
Enter the microchip ID and microchip manufacturer. A microchip assigned to an animal for identifying the animal if the animal is lost. The microchip manufacturer is the company that made the microchip.
Owner
3. Click Save (CTRL+S).
