Assembly Types

An Assembly Type describes the method or design that an assembly uses for preventing contamination through backflow. Once the assembly type is recorded in the database, users can use it to set up assembly models. The information stored on the Testing Fields tab will control the additional fields available when recording testing activity.

For example, you might set up assembly types for Double-check Valve, Pressure Vacuum Breaker, Reduced Pressure, and a Spill-Resistant Vacuum Breaker.

The information stored in the Assembly Types table will determine which testing fields are included in programs that record and display testing data.

Adding a new assembly type

Create a new record for an assembly type.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Backflow Management > Organization > Assembly Types.

2. Click New (CTRL+N).

3. What is the assembly type name? Enter a description of the assembly type in the Assembly Type field. Example: Pressure Valve Breaker

4. What is an abbreviated name that is 10 characters or less? The system uses this name when there is not enough space to include the entire name on a report or in inquiry. Click on the Abbreviation 1 field, then type in the shortened name. Example: Pressure

5. What is an abbreviated name that is 3 characters or less? Like the previous step, the system will use this name when space is even more limited. Click on the Abbreviation 2 field, then type in a shorter name. Example: PVB

6. Do you want to set up testing fields that will appear on the Initial, Repair, or Final testing form?

  • Yes, I want to set up testing fields. Click the Testing Fields tab. Next, use the options on the Testing Fields tab to add fields to the testing form. If you need more assistance, use the sections on Add, Change, or Remove Testing Fields.

  • No, there are not testing fields to set up. Continue to the next step. You can always return later to the Assembly Types table set up a testing field.

7. Click Save (CTRL+S).

The assembly type is saved.

Adding, Changing, or Removing Testing Fields

A testing field is a field that you can add to a testing form to collect additional information.

On which form will the testing field be displayed?

The options on the Testing Field tab allow you to add or remove the testing fields that will appear on the Initial Testing form, Repair Testing form, and Final Testing form. You can also change the order that the testing fields are displayed on the form.

How do I add a testing field?

Select the testing form by clicking on one of the subtabs on the Testing Fields tab. The subtabs are labeled: Initial, Repair, and Final. Next, click Select Additional Fields. This button is located on the subtab toolbar. Use the Selection form to choose which fields to include or exclude from the testing form. When you click OK, the fields that you selected are displayed in the testing field list.

How do I make sure a value is entered in the testing field?

When you select Require a Value, the system will not save the testing form until the person filling out the form fills in the value in the required field.

Can I make the cursor stop at a testing field?

If there is more than one field on the testing form and it's important to fill in the field information, or the user is using the Tab key to move quickly to the next field, select the option to Stop At This Field.

How do I change the order testing fields are displayed on the testing form?

The testing fields will be displayed in the same order that they appear in the Testing Field list, located on the left side of the screen. If you want the testing fields to appear in a different order on the testing form, select a testing field by clicking on it. Then, click the green arrow buttons. One button will move the selection up the list, while the other button moves the selection down.
