How do I convert a workers compensation percentage to a rate?

When do I need to make this change? This change is required to calculate workers compensation in version 2021.05 or later. It affects organizations that calculate workers compensation. You should update rates that are saved as a percentage in the workers compensation class code before you calculate benefits.

In version 2021.05 or later, the employer rate and employee rate allow rates up to five digits (0.0000). In version 2021.02 or earlier, when you entered a workers compensation rate you would convert it to a percentage. In version 2021.05 or later, you do not need to convert a rate to a percentage to use it as the employer rate on a class code.

If you already have a workers compensation rate loaded on a class code, you need to convert the percentage to a rate to calculate the correct workers compensation amount. For example, a workers compensation rate is saved as 1.25%. To convert the workers compensation percentage to a rate, divide the percentage by 100 (1.25% / 100  = 0.0125) and replace the percentage in the workers compensation rate box with the rate.

Converting a workers compensation percentage to a rate

1. Open Connect Payroll > Organization > States.

2. Click to select the Workers Compensation tab > Class Codes tab.

3. Convert the employer rate.

Remember! You only need to do this if the employer rate is entered as a percentage.

[Employer Rate] / 100 = New Employer Rate

2.4100 / 100 = 0.02410
